Thoughts from Nick on Spring Fest 2009........

Well our Spring Fest 09 is a wrap and in the can

I would like to personally thank the bands, the vendors, the volunteers and the
people who attended for making the day so wonderful.  And what a wonderful
day it was.  The temperature was ideal, around 80 degrees, and after the early
morning rain, the air was a clean as could be. The smell of the food vendors
cooking their specialties was enhanced by the smiles of the customers that ate
like Olympic champions the BBQ, Caribbean food, and Critters on a stick
placed before them.

Some things that stick out in my mind’s eye regarding Spring Fest09 are:
People walking to the trash cans to throw away their trash.  This fact was
pointed out to me by my sister who said that this says a lot about the people
who attended.
The children playing in “the caves” made by the trees, along the rock break,
behind the stage while their parents enjoyed the music.
Strangers talking to one another, smiling, and enjoying each others company
like old friends.
The Bands playing their hearts out like they were at the Kennedy Center,
instead of our little venue at Green Hill Farm.

I guess it’s time to start working on our Fall Fest 09, scheduled for the first
weekend in October.  We will post more information as warranted.  Also keep
an eye open for our mini concerts this summer.

Fight the power; Listen to independent music.

Reviews:

this one was special. beautiful sunny/breezy day out on a farm with green grassy hills and some shade
trees. lots of families there with little kids running around, playing together during the show. plenty of
dancing and smiling going on in the crowd throughout. soundcheck happened on the spot right before they
played. I knew it was going to be good one when max did a simple run on his fiddle to get a level and a guy
in the audience went nuts screaming for more. very funny. set the tone. by the end of the set, the gourds
had whipped them all up into a frenzy. set list kinda speaks for itself, but I will say that the "church on fire"
was especially sweet...partly b/c of its rarity, but also b/c jimmy wandered out on stage after it started to
sing harmonies and brought a tambourine with him. you just don't see that kind of stuff at a typical show.
the guys were really loose and having fun, making stuff up on the fly and feeding off a very appreciative
crowd. from what I hear, it's supposed to be a yearly event, so definitely go next year if you can. you won't
be sorry.
